We will be celebrating an
all-school liturgy of Thanksgiving on Wednesday morning at 9:15.
You are most welcome to join us in church. We are asking each
child to bring a donation of a nonperishable food item. Although
anything will be appreciated, the list below indicates those
items most needed by Our Lady of Good Counsel, one of the
parishes in the neighborhood in which I grew up, that will be
receiving our donations this month. This inner-city parish
shares its food with parish families and the homeless. The
following items are most helpful:
Ø
cans of
protein such as meat or beans, cans of soup, canned pasta,
noodle dishes, macaroni & cheese, cereal, cans of vegetables &
fruits, chili, rice and beans, peanut butter and jelly, staple
items such as flour and sugar, disposable diapers. Items
packaged in small cans with “pop-top” lids are most appreciated
for homeless individuals.
Thanks so much to the moms
who were able to come with us last week on our first field trip
to the Nature Museum.
Some important
announcements and reminders:
-
On
Wednesday, December 3, the second graders whose last
names begin with A – M will be making lunches for the
Port Ministry after school. Next week you will
receive information about needed donations.
-
On
Thursday, December 11, we will be taking our second
field trip of the year. This time we are going to the
children’s theater at Dominican University in River Forest
to see a production of “If You Give A Pig A Pancake and
Other Stories.” More information will be coming home next
week.
This week, among other
things, we will be: comparing and contrasting Charlotte’s Web
with the movie; finishing up our unit on the food chain and food
web; reviewing our spelling words from previous units; working
together in Book Clubs on Field Trip Facts;
Introducing and practicing
the partial-sums addition algorithm; comparing how the Pilgrims
lived to the way we live today.

Happy
Thanksgiving!
