On Tuesday
school pictures will be taken for students in grades PreK-7.
Students may be out of uniform on Tuesday. Please return your
picture order form and money to school on Tuesday.
On
Wednesday students will begin wearing the regular uniform. Please
see pages 37-38 in the Parent/Student Handbook for the Uniform Code.
*First grade students may continue to wear gym shoes to school on
Wednesdays and Thursdays only.
*Please help! The water bottles have been getting many of our great
assignments and projects wet. Please do not put ice in your child’s
water bottle. This causes the bottles to sweat and soak the desk!
Water bottles at room temperature are best and still keep the child
hydrated. Thank you for your help!
The Classroom Voulunteers calendar was sent home on Friday to those
who returned the volunteer form. Please check the calendar for your
day and time. If you did not sign up and are still interested,
please email me and I will add you to next month’s schedule.
Homework
This Week:
Reading clubs homework will be sent on Tuesday, Wednesday, and
Thursday this week. Math homework will be sent on Monday, Wednesday,
and Thursday. Please return folders to school the next day with
completed homework!
We Are
Learning:
Religion:
We will
continue the Second Step program and our focus on empathy. Together
we will try to identify others’ feelings through role-play and
discussion. Students will look for clues about feelings in pictures.
We will begin Unit 2, “God Loves You,” in the Religion textbook. We
will cover Chapter 4 “The Trinity.” Students will name the three
persons in the Holy Trinity: God the Father, God the Son, and God
the Holy Spirit. We will spend time this week talking about The Year
of Saint Paul and the October treasure of the spirit – Faithfulness.
On Friday, we will read and discuss the upcoming Gospel for Sunday’s
liturgy.
Language
Arts:
Reading
clubs will continue this week. Magic E (long vowel words - i.e.
make, hike, hope, tube) will be introduced and a class book will be
written using these words. Journal entries about autumn and feelings
as well as handwriting practice (#s 11, 12, a) will be completed
during centers time. Students will practice writing one to two
complete sentences with a capital letter at the beginning and a
period at the end. New word wall words will also be added (four,
orange, of, are, or). The students will have the opportunity to
work independently and in small groups during centers time. Centers
include poetry, writing, math blaster, art, listening, computers,
read the room, ABC order, and word wall work among others. Reading
centers continue to focus on short and long vowel reviews and
“chopping out” unknown words.
Math:
This week the students will practice finding complements of 10 using
pennies. This is called Two Fisted Penny Addition. Math boxes will
be introduced in the student math journal as ways to review
information we have already learned. Units will be introduced and
the Unit Box concept will be learned. Calculators will be used for
the first time. Analog clocks will be introduced and students will
practice telling time to the hour. The following games will be
played: Top-It and Rolling for 50. Addition facts (+0, +1, +2) will
be practiced. *Most of the students know their phone number and
address by heart. If they do not, please help your child memorize
these important numbers.
Science:
We will visit the science lab on Monday and begin our study of
living things with plants. We will explore bean seeds by dissecting
them. We will also plant bean seeds and observe them over the next
several weeks. Students will learn the characteristics that make
plants living things.
Social
Studies:
We will
continue to study community workers. We will focus on firefighters
and discuss how they help in the community. This will connect to our
Fire Prevention Presentation on Wednesday.
