HAPPY CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK!
Lots of exciting activities are happening in the computer lab!
The Kindergarten students have become very familiar with the
keyboard. They drew beautiful pictures of keyboards which are
displayed in the lab. They have learned the home row keys and can
recite them aloud at your request. They also know how to sit
properly at their desk while using the keyboard and can find the
home row keys with their eyes closed. They will continue reviewing
these keys throughout this month.
First Grade continues learning the “upstairs keys”. Four more
letters and then they move to the “basement keys”. So far they can
formally type with these letters: a, s, d, f, j, k, l, g, h, e, i,
t, y, w, o, and this week they will be learning r and u. They enjoy
learning the keys and creating a very large list of words they can
type so far!
The Second graders continue their journaling. They are becoming
excellent typists as they increase their speed and accuracy each
week. They continue to review their typing skills with the Ultra
Key program. Many comment that they can tell they are becoming
better typers.
The Third graders will soon complete their Power Point projects on
Native Americans. Each group of 5/6 was assigned a tribe to
research and then create 3 slides in Power Point. They have become
familiar with creating new slides; changing font sizes, colors and
styles; importing pictures into a slide from the internet and
creating transitions from slide to slide. They enjoy working
together and learning from each other.
The Fourth graders are being tested on their typing skills, as this
is their last year of reviewing formal keyboarding. They also
continue to become familiar with the internet by researching
websites in particular the St. John of the Cross website. The
students were assigned a “SJC web search” where they had to locate
information on our website and record the answers. They enjoyed
this project and became very familiar with all the information
included on our website.
