We are Rooted in Faith
This week in Religion
We will
-
Celebrate Catholic Schools Week. This is a special week to
recognize the uniqueness of SJC. On Monday we will join the entire
school at a liturgy planned by the 6th graders. We will
discuss and decorate the national logo of CSW. On Tuesday we will
view the 8th grade’s Invention Convention. We will be
supporting our buddies with our presence. On Thursday we invite you
to view our school “in action” at our Open House from 9:00-11:00 and
1-3 p.m. Friday brings much excitement for students and staff.
Each grade level has been assigned a special color to wear on this
out of uniform day. First grade is being asked to wear green
and white; our school colors. In the morning the 1st
through 4th graders will participate in 2 activities.
First we will join our 2nd grade friends in Hynes hall
for some good spirited competition. Then we will return to our
classrooms to complete a service project for the Ronald Mc Donald
House of Loyola Hospital (see more information below). To
culminate the morning we will go upstairs to watch the Great Pig
race. Each homeroom who meets their magazine drive goal will have a
mechanical pig to enter the race. Room 104 is doing well with their
sales. I will let you know if our homeroom earns a pig to enter in
the race. After lunch the entire school will gather in the upstairs
gym for an afternoon of games, races and spirit. This week we will
create our own homeroom cheer for the spirit day cheer contest. What
an eventful week!

Some reminders
·
On Friday the 1st and 2nd graders will be creating
a service project to help the young patients and their siblings at the
Ronald Mc Donald House of Loyola Hospital. We will be creating kits
that will have all the necessary items to make a holiday themed art
project. Patients may complete one while they are in the hospital
getting treatment or a sibling may complete one to pass the time. We
are asking a $2 donation from each student to help defray the cost of
this service project. Please send in your donation by Friday. Thank
you.
·
The February and March volunteer calendars are attached. There are still
some holes in February and lots in March. If your schedule allows,
please consider helping out for reading clubs on any of these days.
Thank you for your interest in our classroom!
·
The February Scholastic book order is attached as well. Orders are due
Friday, 2/5. You are also welcome to order on-line. See the attached
letter for instructions and the pass word.
·
Wednesday is our 100th day of school. This is a big
milestone for 1st graders. We will work on more 100 type
activities that of the day.
·
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. Each student will need to
create their own collection box for their valentines exchanged here in
class. Shoe boxes or cereal boxes covered/decorated work the best.
Each box needs to have a slit/hole in the top for delivery of cards as
well as a way to retrieve them. Cards should NOT be address to
individual students. Simply send in a class set of 21 which your child
has signed. This will aid in the distribution. Boxes and cards can
begin being sent in next Monday, 2/8.
·
Thank you for your support of our magazine drive. Students are very
excited about the opportunity to earn prizes with this event. This
drive provides for technology enhancements for the entire school that
otherwise would not be in the general budget. The Great Pig Race will
take place on Friday morning.
·
Mrs. Bak would like to remind the girls to wear shorts under their
jumpers on gym days and everyone should wear gym shoes on Thursdays and
Fridays.
