Welcome!
I am very excited and honored to have the privilege of
educating your kindergarten child this year! This is my fourth year
teaching and my third year at SJC. I currently hold an Early
Childhood License and a Special Education License. Currently, I am
in graduate school at Dominican University and have one more class
to take this fall in order to complete my Master’s Degree and
certification as a Reading Specialist. I spent the summer going to
classes and teaching reading in the primary grades and junior high
at Dominican’s reading clinic. It was a great experience to work
with older students and it solidified my love for teaching young
children, particularly kindergarten!
This will be a great year for your child.
He/She will emerge from recognizing letters and their sounds, to
recognizing and sounding out words, and then beginning reading! Your
child will count past one hundred and begin addition and
subtraction! They will grow in their faith and in their friendships.
It is such an exciting year that we have ahead of us. Please feel
free to contact me at any time via email or voice mail at the
school. We will be using the Jolly Phonics Program, Everyday Math,
Harcourt’s religion series Call to Faith, and the Macmillan
McGraw-Hill science series. We will talk more about the curriculum
and the programs that we use on Meet the Teacher Night, which is a
night scheduled for parents to visit. Meet the Teacher Night for
Preschool and Kindergarten is on Wednesday, September 3 at 7:00 pm
in the multipurpose room on the first floor. We will begin in
the multipurpose room and then proceed to the classroom. I look
forward to seeing you there. Check the school’s website for the date
and time of the meetings for any other grades, as they are scheduled
at different times and nights.
A few other tidbits of important information as we start the year:
o
Each week, a newsletter will come home outlining what we will be
doing in each subject area as well as any special events and
reminders for that week.
o
We will begin having classroom volunteers and PE helpers in October.
I will send more information at a later date. All volunteers need to
be Virtus Trained and complete a background check through the
Archdiocese in order to help on a special lunch day, field trip, in
the classroom, or a holiday party. Information is on the school’s
website.
o
Friday Folders-
This is the system the school is using to deliver papers and
information to families. I will be sending the folder home on Friday
with any papers from the office, flyers, and completed work that
your student did throughout the week. A parent signature is required
on the sheet attached in the Friday Folder. Folders are due on
Monday dated and with a parent signature.
o
Homework Folders-
There will be homework weekly that goes home on Monday and is due on
or before Friday of the same week and is to be returned in the
folder. In January, reading homework will also be assigned each
week.
o
The school’s website is always full of information and the latest
school calendar. I suggest that you check it regularly. New items
that are posted on the website are in red font. My weekly
newsletters will always be posted under the link to my name.
Please email me or leave a voice mail with any questions that you
may have. We have a great year ahead of us!
