Principal's Newsletter
August, 2008
Greetings to All Our SJC Families,
Gazing outside at the beautiful summer day, I realize that the
leaves will be changing and the weather will be cooler sooner than
we think. The change of seasons always brings with it an
anticipation and newness, which would aptly describe the upcoming
school year. The teachers are already preparing their classrooms
for the children’s arrival on August 25th and we have met
as a staff. The Church celebrates the “Year of St. Paul.” We will
“Journey With St. Paul in service and harmony” this school year.
I would like to take a moment to thank my predecessor, Mrs. Maureen
Colin, for the time and dedication that she gave to St. John of the
Cross Parish School. The faith formation and many curricular
programs are a credit to Mrs. Colin’s leadership. We here at SJC
wish her well on her new journey.
Our new journey begins on August 25th. The first week of
school usually acclimates the children to their new classroom, new
classmates, and different routines. Teachers will distribute the
Parent Handbook on the first day. We ask that you read the Handbook
and return the signed acknowledgement, indicating that you have read
the book and understand its content. Any changes are highlighted in
gray.

In your August packet, a letter was enclosed asking for volunteers
for the Parent Association, an organization that fully supports
student activities throughout the year. Please return those forms
to the office. The Parent Association has planned a couple
of events during the first week of school as well.

in the Parish Center.
Please mark your calendars with the following dates for Parent
Meetings:

September 3rd 7:00
PM Early Childhood and Kindergarten
7:30 PM Grades 1 – 3.

September 4th 7:00
PM Grades 4 – 6.
7:30 PM Grades 7-8.
All meetings begin in the multi-purpose room. We will meet with
you, and then you will have the opportunity to see your child/ren’s
classroom and meet with the teacher.
Please make it a regular occurrence to check the website for updated
events. My letter will be online at the beginning of each month,
giving you a brief synopsis of the school happenings or addressing
future events. When calling or returning a phone call to the
school, please call 708-246-4454. The Parish Center has recently
been answering calls for the school.
