Dear Parents:
Welcome back! I hope you had a wonderful, peace
filled, enjoyable holiday rich with family and friends.
We have enthusiastically jumped into the New Year.
The second graders will begin a novel study next week. The girls are
reading the book, A Hundred Dresses and the boys will be reading,
Balto. Both stories deal with making good choices and the important
life lessons learned from those choices. We will be in small groups
exploring character development, plot sequence, new vocabulary and
cause and effect. The students will learn how to use a graphic
organizer and sequence maps. We will finish with an activity choice
to culminate the unit.
In third grade we are working on parts of speech and spelling
patterns. For the next couple of weeks we will
learn and understand how to use prefixes and suffixes.
The new science unit is about weather and the water cycle. The
students will use hands-on experiments and observations to learn
about condensation, precipitation, cloud formations, wind and
climate.
Fourth grade groups are working on specific skill building
activities in reading and language arts. The groups change depending
on the skill needing to be reviewed. In Social Studies the students
are learning to make inferences from stories about the American
Revolution. Making inferences is a skill used to make logical
predictions and judgments based on the material given.
So, may the power of the Holy Spirit fill you with hope
(Romans 15:113) as we go into the wonderful New Year.
“Another fresh new year is here
Another year to live!
To banish worry, doubt, and fear
To love and laugh and give!
Have a peace filled
New Year
Mrs. Cheryl
