8th Grade Science
Mrs. Kredens
In the first week of December, the students will be finishing
Chapter 5C,
"Changes Over Time." This chapter explained Darwin's scientific
discoveries and
theories that evolved from his trip in 1831. Last week, Mrs. Frett
gave a presentation
about her trip to the Galapagos Islands. Mrs. Frett's descriptions
of her trip were very interesting to the students.
The next unit will be in a new text of the series,
From Bacteria to Plants.
In Chapter 1A, the students will be learning about the
classification of living things. They will also cover the different
theories as to how life started on earth. In the following chapter,
the students will begin their study of viruses and bacteria. These
units follow the Archdiocesan science curriculum.
For the science invention fair, the students have
finished their surveys and are graphing their results in computer
classes. The due dates for science class this month include:
Thursday, Dec. 4th-A typed paragraph description of the marketing
technique is due.
Wednesday, Dec. 17th for science class-A conclusion written for each
survey question is due. This must be typed.
The students should be working on their display board
and should be finishing their prototype. The students will receive
handouts about how to set up their final report. They will also
receive the criteria for their presentation in science class and for
the judges.
The students will know before Christmas when they will
be giving their January presentations in class. Presentations will
begin Wednesday, January 7th. The students must have their final
report, display board, and prototype completed for their
presentations in class.
Merry Christmas!
