Dear Parents:
It was
the week of Terra Nova Testing and the students completed their
first standardized tests! The testing took up half of the day
and we had regular lessons the rest of the day. As I have told
the class, this is just the first of many standardized testing
experiences of their school career. Also if their career path
later in life finds them on the road to being a teacher, doctor,
or maybe a lawyer, they will still be taking standardized tests
to license them for their careers. I enjoyed being a part of
their first experience and hopefully set a good precedence for
their future ones. In honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday, the class
preformed one of his books, Hooray for Diffendoofer Day!
This is a book about a positive standardized testing experience
for Diffendoofer School. It seemed like a great way to end our
week of Terra Nova testing!
Our next reading selection for the Voyagers theme will be
Yunmi and Halmoni’s Trip. It is a fictional story about a
young girl and her grandmother who travel from New York to Korea
to visit their relatives. In math we are at the end of unit 6
and there will be text on this unit at the end of next week. We
will be reviewing the chapter concepts the first part of the
week. Please be sure to check assignment notebooks for updates
on this test date. One of the Lenten projects that students will
be working on is making crosses and we will start on this next
week. There was a separate letter that went home in regards to
another Lenten project called Resurrection Eggs. Please be sure
to read it and send in the materials for this.
Over
the next two weeks we will be talking about South America – our
continent of study for third grade. Students will actually
receive a passport and travel to different stations learning
about the land, culture, geography and the people. Next week
they will be introduced to this unit with a movie about the
people and geography of South America. If your travels have ever
taken you there and you have some souvenirs, or pictures you
would like to share, feel free to send them in. We are now at
the end of our second trimester and next week Wednesday report
cards will go home. Friday is also an out of uniform day. March
16th is Port Sandwich Making for third grade again
and Thursday of that week is also a Special Lunch day. Remember
Tuesday & Wednesday are garbage free lunch days. Please send
your child’s lunch to school in reusable containers on those
days! Our next and final Continental Math meet will be on
Tuesday March 16th at 8:00AM. Thank you again for all
that you do. Feel free to contact me if you ever have any
questions.
Have a great
weekend!
