Room 204 REALLY
does have spirit! We were all so happy to win the prize
for the best Spirit Day cheer (between Grades 5 and 6. ) Congratulations
to Room 202 and 201 for also doing clever
routines. We were especially proud of Jack and Clare for performing
their
rap “solos.” Hopefully everyone enjoyed the Super Bowl Shuffle team
one more time during this year’s game! Go Bears! (again some day).
I’m happy to see how warmly dressed most students are on our rare
outdoor recess days. Several students are collecting “cold cash” for
their sensible “outdoor wear” which includes leg coverings, hat and
gloves for girls and hats and gloves for boys. Once students collect
$5, they are entitled to do some shopping for a few sweet treats.
We are currently focusing on leadership in Religion class, studying the
history of Israel’s first kings including Saul and David. The students
did a great job during our Open House day of interpreting some difficult
passages from Judges which demonstrated Deborah’s bravery, Gideon’s
trust and humility and Jephthah’s peacemaking nature.
We are also reflecting on our own ability to be leaders and what
qualities we currently possess that are highly valued.
In Chapter 8 we will explore the value of wisdom in several books of the
Old Testament including Psalms, job, Proverbs, Sirach, Ecclesiastes and
Wisdom itself.
The boys and girl are working hard to improve their interpersonal
skills, which includes thinking before they speak. We are working
especially hard on not making flip comments to one another if we
disagree with someone or they make a simple mistake.
I’m always amazed at how hard my students work on their homework during
indoor recess periods. There have been times when the entire class is
almost silent as they work to get their math homework completed. I am
very proud of their industrious nature!

I will be out Wednesday afternoon to attend a Terra Nova Testing
conference as this year’s coordinator.
Grade Six will also sponsor the Ash Wednesday Liturgy on February 17th
at 9:15 a.m. We have no school on Monday, Feb. 15 and 22.
I look forward to meeting those of you who have signed up for
conferences on Thursday and Friday of this week.
