Homeroom 203
Religion/5th
and 6th grade Writing
November
This has been a
very exciting year for the 5th graders. Currently, they
are engaged in voting activities as a school body and writing
letters to the future president in Writing class. Their enthusiasm
fills the hallways.
In religion we
have been focusing on the lives of the saints. It is so important
for our children to be aware of the holy men, women, and children
that have gone before us living ordinary lives doing extraordinary
acts with the help of God.
In Writing we
had been creating poetry following the style of Jack Prelutsky.
They enjoyed adding additional stanzas to the original poems
following the established pattern and sharing them with the class.
In the classroom the writings that have gone to the final stage of
Presentation using the 6 Traits + 1 writing model are collected in
folders for the enjoyment of the class. During quiet times they are
allowed to read from their own library of student created stories
and poems.
This month the 5th
and 6th graders will be writing informal letters to the
President. Each student will express two of their concerns and
explain why it is important to them, and offer a suggestion. To
foster our Catholic faith, the kids will congratulate the newly
elected President and assure him that our prayers will be with him
as he leads the country. These letters will be mailed to the White
House when they have be edited and revised. We will anxiously be
waiting for a reply!
I am looking
forward to meeting with many of you for Parent Teacher conferences
this week. The kids are a bit anxious since this is the first time
that they need to be present, too. Report cards will be distributed
at the end of the month before the Thanksgiving holiday.
Thank you,
Mrs. Van
