GO GREEN!

The environmental club would really like to get everyone involved in taking part in going green. This year one of the many ideas we have planned is have a “green” task every month. These are meant to be fun, low maintenance activities that the entire school will participate in. Here are the plans we have so far for the months of September/October through December:

September/ October- We have put pop top boxes in all the class rooms. We ask if any teachers drink pop at school to pop off the top and put it the “ Ronald McDonald House.” Also, encourage your students to pop the tops off the soda they drink at home and bring them into school. Some of you may not even know why we are doing the pop-top project, but Ronald McDonald House charity recycles the tops to pay the bills. About one pound equals 25 cents- so start saving your pop-tops!

In addition, we ask that all the teachers turn off two rows of light two days per week—your choice what day. You would be surprised how much it would help! We call this “2+2.” Listen for announcements reminding everyone about the 2+2 project.

November- We will be collecting broken crayons- crayons picked up at the end of the day from the floor—containers will be delivered to your rooms for collections- these crayons will be sent to an organization, S.C.A.R.C.E., that melts the old crayons and molds new crayons for students with special needs.   Further, we are challenging everyone to a “no paper” day- we’d like to have one day in November when we would not use paper at all! Be creative and think other ways to do our work.

December- we are planning on decorating the trees in the courtyard and on campus with environmentally friendly ornaments- details to follow. Thanks! Any questions, please ask Mrs. Wheeler or Mary Jo Murino.
